Senior Backend Engineer (Alpha) (RARR Job 6333)

The area you'll work in:
The team writes us tools in Python for AI to read and convert Excel files to python

What you'll do (ways of working):

• Own the technical direction and delivery of significant backend systems, from requirements to production.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, setting standards and creating growth opportunities.
• Working across multiple teams and services, often co-ordinating across regional boundaries.
• Break down large programmes of work into manageable deliveries, managing risk and dependencies.
• Product support is integral to the role, you'll provide value during incidents even for systems you haven't directly built.
• Build trusted relationships with the business, translating between business needs and technical solutions.
• Drive platform improvements and address technical debt, impactfully explaining benefits to leadership.

What you need to have to succeed in the role:

• Willingness to learn multiple programming languages.
• Demonstrable experience of one language. We predominantly use Python (FastAPI).
• Strong understanding of databases and data modelling.
• Knowledge of HTTP APIs and service contract design.
• Writes well-structured, testable code and sets standards for others.
• Management of tech debt, making the case for investment to leadership.
• Expert-level Python including async patterns, C extensions for performance, and production-grade service design
