Technical Architect (AVS VMware) (RARR Job 5770)

Experience: 12+ years of IT experience, with minimum 3 years on Azure VMware Solution (AVS) and 5+ years on VMware vSphere, Azure cloud deployments, and cloud migrations

Responsibilities

• Partner with program managers and service delivery teams to plan, architect, and deliver complex infrastructure deployments and migrations for large enterprise customers moving from on-prem VMware environments to Azure VMware Solution.

• Work directly with application, infrastructure, and security stakeholders to define requirements, strategy, and processes for successful design, deployment, and migration.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Azure/AVS and VMware products to propose optimal designs and act as a subject matter expert for internal teams.

• Share knowledge through solution documentation, technical community engagement, automated self-help solutions, and training content.

Qualifications & Competencies

Core Technical Expertise

• Design end-to-end Azure VMware Solution (AVS) architectures including private cloud extension, identity integration, hybrid networking, and workload mobility.

• Architect Azure Landing Zones for AVS (resource groups, private clouds, ExpressRoute, NSX-T, storage integration).

• Define migration patterns including HCX bulk migration, vMotion/live migration, cold migration, replication-based migration.

• Strong experience designing datacentre and cloud infrastructure using VMware and Microsoft technologies.

• Hands-on experience designing and implementing Azure VMware Solution (AVS).

VMware Expertise

• Required:

  • VMware vSphere 6.0+

  • VMware NSX-T (Edge Services, DNS/DHCP, Gateway FW, Distributed FW, NSX implementation & NSX-v migration)

  • VMware vSAN

  • VMware HCX Advanced & Enterprise

• Preferred:

  • VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) & vSphere Replication

  • VMware management suite (vCD, vROps, vRNI, vRLI)

Azure Expertise

• Required:

  • Azure ExpressRoute & VPN

  • Azure Virtual WAN & Route Server

  • Azure networking fundamentals

• Preferred:

  • Azure Disk Pools, Azure NetApp Files

  • Azure Monitor, Arc, Security Center

  • Third-party VNFs (firewalls, load-balancers, routers)

Additional Skills

• Experience with on-prem-to-cloud or cloud-to-cloud migrations using VMware HCX.

• Understanding of major cloud management systems and automation workflows.

• Strong foundation in platform architecture (hypervisor, networking, security, HA, data protection, monitoring, patching).

• Good knowledge of datacentre network fabric topologies (L2/L3).

• Strong presentation, influencing, and customer communication skills.

Education

• Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Computer Science/Technology or equivalent experience.

• Preferred certifications (not mandatory): VCDX-DCV/CMA, CCDP, CCNP, VCP-NV.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience delivering Azure-specific solutions for enterprise customers.

• Strong communication and customer-handling skills, especially in critical or high-impact scenarios.

• Ability to lead projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive customer success.
