Role Overview:
The AVP – Data Center Automation is a senior leadership role responsible for driving automation strategy, system integration, and optimization across data center operations. This role oversees BMS, OSS/BSS, OT systems, and control architecture, ensuring seamless performance, security, and scalability of mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
System Architecture & Design
• Define overall control architecture including PLC/DDC hierarchy and supervisory levels
• Design OT LAN segmentation, VLANs, IP plans, redundancy and failover logic
• Develop control philosophy, IO lists, and Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
• Coordinate with MEP consultants, contractors, and operations teams
Control System Development
• Author control logic for power systems (UPS, LV/MV switchgear, gensets, PDUs)
• Design and optimize cooling systems automation (chillers, CRAHs, pumps, CTs)
• Configure PLCs, DDCs, and SCADA servers (Schneider, Siemens, Rockwell, Honeywell)
• Enable interoperability via BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC-UA, MQTT
Commissioning & Validation
• Develop and execute FAT/SAT scripts
• Validate alarms, trends, redundancy, and failover scenarios
• Integrate systems with DCIM, AIops, and energy optimization platforms
OT & Cybersecurity Governance
• Define OT security frameworks including IT-OT segregation
• Enforce firewall, DMZ, patching, and backup strategies
• Align automation systems to IEC 62443 or equivalent standards
Operations Enablement & Optimization
• Create O&M procedures for BMS/SCADA systems
• Develop dashboards for PUE, thermal KPIs, predictive maintenance
• Tune PID loops, optimize setpoints, deploy AI models and digital twins
Stakeholder & Contract Management
• Manage vendors, service providers, and internal stakeholders
• Negotiate SLAs and ensure performance standards
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls preferred)
• 15+ years in designing/configuring HVAC controls, BMS, and SCADA systems
• Strong understanding of electrical & mechanical DC systems
• Proficiency in TCP/IP, MQTT, BACnet, MODBUS
• Experience managing multi-vendor DC automation projects
• Strong leadership, coordination, and execution capabilities
